As the Yoruba proverb says, ‘20 children can’t play for 20 years’. Can we really say the same for Basketmouth and Buchi? We doubt it. From hustling as rookie comedians to becoming a formidable force in the comedy world, this duo has shown us how to pull our friends along with us on our success journeys. They are truly deserving of their flowers.

Here are five times they’ve served us friendship goals and showcased their undeniable work chemistry.

Inspirational quotes by Basketmouth and Buchi

This YouTube series was released in 2020, where they both shared inspirational quotes with viewers. Between the analysis of some inspirational quotes were a few words supplying comic relief for easy comprehension.

‘Nite of a Thousand Laughs’

We can’t tell when their friendship started, but what we sure know is that these men have been gunning for success since the early days of ‘Nite of a Thousand Laughs’ in 1995. You remember the religious saying about the ‘days of small beginnings. So yeah, don’t give up.

My Flatmates

Basketmouth produced this situational comedy series, and we saw Buchi play the role of ‘Barrister Obus’ – a broke Lawyer who never won a case. In this life, always have a supportive circle of friends. E get why.

Papa Benji

In this web series, Basketmouth played the character of ‘Mr Jiminus’, while Buchi portrayed ‘Papa Solo’. If you’ve watched this series, then you should know that ‘Papa Solo’ is that one friend you should have in your corner. The duo gave us best friend goals in this series.

Ghana Jollof

You thought we were done? LOL. Your favourite comedians are back on our screens in ‘Ghana Jollof’ – Showmax’s first original comedy series. New episodes of Ghana Jollof drop on Showmax every Friday at 7 PM. You don’t want to miss episode two this weekend.

There you have it. Basketmouth and Buchi are the true definition of ‘men support men’. They’ve proven to us that real friends exist, and we’re here to see more of it.

If you can’t already tell from how he looks and speaks, Samjoe is the biggest lover boy at ID Africa. Love comes easy for him, and he shares some of the songs on his playlist that inspire such emotion.

Samjoe

Love is one of the most powerful emotions in the world, and one thing that captures it almost perfectly is music. Samjoe loves to love, and his music is one way he connects to that emotion seeing as the ladies did him dirty in 2020. ‘Gon Gon Ni’ by Priceless Ay and Swagz.i, ‘Promise’ by Itzbizy, ‘Ride For Me’ by B Young and ‘Corps’ by Yseult are some of the songs that Samjoe guarantees will put you in your feels.

Love is not the only mood Samjoe enjoys; he also enjoys feeling close to God. For this, Samjoe prefers gospel hip-hop songs such as ‘Renegades’ by Armani ft Caleb Mccoy and ‘The Healthy’ by Eshon Burgundy instead of the statement worship songs.

Samjoe keeps his beard full and neatly trimmed to the ladies’ delight and envy of some men. He guarantees that listening to ‘Bolo Bolo’ by The Cavemen will help your beard grow. We’re not exactly sure how that works, but hey, we’ll take his word for it.

Watch Samjoe’s #NetngPlaylist for more songs for love or heartbreak on thenet.ng/playlist and catch up on Season 2 as more episodes air every day at 6 pm.

Music says a lot about people’s personalities, and research has proven that parents influence the music taste of many people, and it says a lot about their philosophy and politics.

Abisoye Fagade, the CEO of Sodium Group, which has under its belt Sodium Brand Solutions, one of Nigeria’s leading marketing communications agencies, recently told Neusroom in an exclusive interview how music and movies define his eventful life.

Being a CEO is highly demanding, so when Fagade is not executing marketing communication plans or attending political meetings, he said, “I’m probably in the corner of my room on my bed, maybe reading something online, watching a movie.”

Influenced by his parents’ choice of music while he was young, Fagade said he likes Yoruba music and the works of late Olubukola Olomola aka Baba Ara and legendary gospel singer Steve Pelemoh aka Brobro feature prominently on his list of favourite songs.

“My life is too eventful, so the only time I enjoy myself is when I’m in my room, I like watching Yoruba movies. I won’t lie to you; I’m an addict. Then listen to music. I love Yoruba music a lot.”

Basketmouth has become a household name in Nigeria and his name is synonymous with comedy in the country. This is why when it was announced that he has landed Showmax’s first original comedy series, Ghana Jollof, it received widespread acceptance with many on social media expressing their desire to see it as soon as it was released. This is not surprising because Basketmouth has already earned that pedigree as Nigeria’s most creative and versatile comedian.

Basketmouth is not someone that does things in halves; he has consistently over the years shown his artistic dexterity in movie, music and comedy shows. Born Bright Okpocha on September 14 1978 in Lagos state, Basketmouth attended primary and secondary school in Lagos before moving to Benin where he studied Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Benin.

He began his artistic sojourn in 1991 as a drummer. Three years later, he switched to rap with the formation of a group named “Da Psychophats”.  group was dissolved and he formed another one named “Da Oddz” with his brother, Godwin.

Basketmouth ultimately dropped his rap ambition and focused on his comedy rising to become Nigeria’s most influential and notable comedian.

He is one of the few Nigerian comedians to have international comedy tours. He has sold out Indigo at The O2 many times since 2010 and went on to sell out the Eventim Apollo Hammersmith. He became the only Nigerian comedian to have sold out the SSE Arena, Wembley in 2017.

As a testament to his brilliance, Basketmouth won the National Comedy Award and the awards for Best Stand-up Comedian of the Year in 2005 and 2006.

He also hosted the MTV Base Big Friday show from 2012 to 2017. He started producing his award-winning TV series, “My Flatmates” in 2013. In 2014, he headlined his own show, ‘Just For Laughs’ on Comedy Central and has continued to do skits and a few other appearances on the channel since then.

In December 2020, Basketmouth began his comedy web series titled “Papa Benji”.

Ghana Jollof might soon best be described as Baskemouth’s biggest project and perhaps the most innovative. Interested participants were asked to post a two-minute video on Instagram for an audition.

The comedy series, Ghana Jollof,  which was filmed in Lagos and Accra stars Basketmouth, who also doubles as Executive Producer, comedian/actor Buchi, AMVCA-winning comedian, Funnybone, actor Uzor Arukwe, who starred as the dreaded crime boss, Knight, in Sugar Rush and popular YouTuber, Akah Nnani.

Joselyn Dumas, a nominee for the Africa Movie Academy Award (AMAA), heartthrobs Mawuli Gavor and James Gardiner bring in the Ghanaian touch to the series alongside the ‘Queen of Ghana comedy’, Jacinta Ocansey, popular reality star Portia Freelove, model and actress Brihanna Kinte, veteran actor Jackson Albert Davies, actress Korkor Oyeba Mensah, and multiple-award-winning comedian/actor, Kalybos.

Ghana Jollof‘s humour lies in relatable everyday events peculiar to the Nigerian and Ghanaian cultures. It adopts a creative style where the actors address the viewers by providing a personal commentary on events in the series. From the students in UNILAG trying to size each other up on the first day in the hostel to the young lady with multiple boyfriends, Basketmouth has truly brought his A-game to the screen combining his expertise as a master comedian with his dexterity as a producer. The series is truly worth its hype.

Among over 4,000 entries received for the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) 2021, Bolanle-Austen-Peters‘ feature film ‘Collision Course’ has been selected as the closing film for the 10th AFRIFF holding in Lagos in November.

Recall that the Creative Director of AFRIFF, Jenny Alonzo, had said the festival received over 4,000 submissions from over 100 countries for this year’s festival. Only 48 films made the final list, and Collision Course also stood out among the best 48 films.

Bolanle Austen-Peters, the producer of multiple award-winning movie, ’93 DAYS’ and director of the blockbuster high grossing film ‘The Bling Lagosians’, announced the selection of ‘Collision Course’ as AFRIFF’s closing film.

In an announcement at a press conference by the festival organizers, ‘Collision Course’ was selected as the festival closing film from the array of entries the festival received.

Festival closing films are typically the centrepiece film of festivals. They are important films that satisfy the festival’s critical screening and review criteria to deserve the festival closing night spotlight.

COLLISION COURSE was directed by Bolanle Austen-Peters (BAP) and produced by Joseph Umoibom and James Amuta.

BAP Productions is a foremost Nigerian theatre and film production company.

The film features Chioma Akpotha, Daniel Etim Effiong, Kelechi Udegbe, Ade Laoye, Kenneth Okolie, Bimbo Manuel, Gregory Ojefua, Bamike Olawunmi-Adenibuyan (BamBam), Kalu Ikeagwu, and Nobert Young. Collision Course is a heart-thumping story told in 24 hours that dives into the lives of a law enforcement agent, a young man and some rogue element.

In its 10th year, AFRIFF is one of the foremost film festivals in Africa and a significant player in the showcase of African film and filmmakers. The festival will run from November 7 to November 13 at the Landmark event centre, with ‘Collision Course’ closing the festival on November 12.

Only one Gulder Ultimate Search contestant can be the ultimate winner, but for Olayinka Gabriel Omoya, his journey ended quickly.

Gulder Ultimate Search

Omoya is a 26-year old music artiste and writer who auditioned for Gulder Ultimate Search Season 12 in the hopes of winning the prize money to further his musical career. From the regional stage to the final selection, Omoya proved his agility and strength were up to the task.

As they progressed to the jungle, Omoya selected a blue lantern, resulting in him being a part of the Clan Amo. Clan Amo seemed to be in sync, but the second task was their undoing. The Third Eye challenge wasn’t kind to Clan Amo as they struggled to clear the course in time.

It was a challenge for their third eye, Omoya, to navigate the blindfolded members through the maze, which put them in last place. Clam Amo went with sadness to the Place of the Talking Drum, where the anchor, Toke Makinwa, passed out their judgement. Firstly, she announced that he had failed his first test by losing a leg of his sandal. As a craftsman, you have to be observant.

The elimination process took a different turn this time, as directed by the council of elders. The anchor showed Clan Amo images of six fruits, and they had 10 seconds to write what they saw in the correct order. Iniabasi, Agbonile, Tosin, Emmanuel and Jennifer all had the right order, except for Omoya Yinka, who wrote down only three fruits. He failed to complete that simple task and was evicted.

Omoya’s journey to being the ultimate man ended today as he made his way out of the jungle, leaving 17 contestants to fight for the treasure. Who will be victorious?

It’s redemption time for Clan Irin, as their victory in the Third Eye Task saved them from facing eviction two nights in a row.

The task took place at the Ring of Ultimate Warriors. Each team divided themselves into two; three clan members would use a wheelbarrow to navigate the maze. One member sitting in the wheelbarrow, the third eye, will direct the other two blindfolded members pushing the wheelbarrow. They will go through the maze, picking up puzzle bags, and at the end of the labyrinth, the remaining members will assemble the puzzle pieces to create the word – craft beer.

The task proved more than their teamwork could take. It took a long time for the clans to navigate the maze. Clan Iroko, with Yankari, had to start over thrice because they kept violating the rules. It was a slow but steady pace for Clan Irin as their third eye, Mfon Esin carefully directed his teammates through the maze. Clan Amo also had difficulty as their third eye Omoya couldn’t seem to lead his teammates well.

Clan Irin completed their task first as they made their way to their teammates and completed the puzzle in record time. Surprisingly, Clan Iroko came in second, despite having to start the maze again thrice. Clan Amo was third, and a member evicted, Olayinka Omoya, was evicted at the place of the talking drum.

Living in the jungle with limited supplies can be tricky, and it took a toll on the contestants as Esitima and Mfon exchanged harsh words over a pair of sandals.

Camp Amorokin

The sandals given to the contestants are similar, and a mix up is bound to happen as someone wears another person’s pair. This was what occurred as Mfon wore Esitima’s sandals. But when Esitima asked for her shoes, that’s when things took a downward turn.

For someone who was in the wrong, Mfon got too aggressive at that moment. He began name-calling Esitima and even went as far as issuing death threats. The other contestants did not find this funny. Damilola, busy in the kitchen, had to pause his work when he heard the words Mikel said. Mikel told Esitima that “she couldn’t dare talk to him that way outside the show” and “she should watch her back.”

Mfon, on the other hand, felt Esitima was ranting and spoke to him rudely. He said that he had noticed she was “uncultured and disrespectful” and had been trying to annoy him. He said that he let his anger get the best of him and shouldn’t have reacted that way.

All these over a pair of sandals? The jungle life may be getting to them, but that’s no excuse to threaten one’s life. We’re curious to see how the Council of elders will address this situation. What will be Mfon and Esitima’s fate?

After a day of intense arguments and a gruelling group task, Clan Irin and Iroko lost a member each at the place of the talking drum.

Gerald

Remember there was a big argument earlier in the day between Clan Iroko’s Esitima and Clan Irin’s Mfon? The exchange of words caught the attention of the Council of Elders, who did not take lightly to Mfon’s threats. His lack of self-control led to his eviction from the Gulder Ultimate Search Season 12.

As tension still ran high from the first eviction, Clan Iroko was put on the hot seat. As they were last place in the daily task, a member of the team will be evicted. The anchor, Toke Makinwa, asked them who they thought was the weakest link. After the votes, Solomon Yankari was nominated as the weakest link of Clan Iroko.

They played the game of lone sojourner, where each clan member had to write the images the anchor showed them in the correct order. This game took a complete turn as it became a test of obedience and intellect. Following a series of instructions by the anchor to weed out the weak link, members of the clan were saved from a possible eviction one by one.

Gerald Odeka was evicted from the show at the end of the night, leaving 15 contestants vying for their place as the ultimate warrior. Who will it be?
